Writing update: September 2021

Have I used the phrase “it’s been a rollercoaster of a couple of months” yet? Because that’s all I can think of to describe the last couple of months. So if I have used it before, I apologize. But if I haven’t… well, there you go.

I’m not sure what was going on with my brain throughout July, but I do know it wasn’t quite up to par. I managed to do some writing that month, but not nearly as much as normal, and I barely blogged. I even missed my last writing update entirely.

I did get back on track a bit in August, though. I’m feeling a bit better about things now, and I’m optimistic about September. Before I get too far into that, though, let’s take a look at what, exactly, I did manage to do over the last little while.

Novel-length WIPs

This is easily, once again, where I made the most progress. I wrote a decent amount of N in August, and managed to get down to only three chapters left to draft. If all goes according to plan, I should be able to finish them this month.

While I didn’t do as much when it came to CD, I did read a little more of the manuscript. There’s still a fair amount left, though, so it’s going to be a big focus this week. My hope is to finish it off quickly, then focus on editing it later in September.

Short stories

Here’s where I really lagged. I don’t think I really did any writing or editing in this area over the past two months. I did, however, adjust some task planning, so I’m hopeful that will help me get my short story work back to where I want it to be.

That’s about it, really. It’s not much of an update, I suppose, but it’s something.

As I’ve gotten better about writing regularly again in August, I’m hoping to up my pace a bit and increase the number of days I write in September. If all goes well, maybe I can even be writing daily again in time for NaNoWriMo. That may be a lofty goal, but it’s one I have at this point.

Let’s see if I can achieve it.
