Writing update: May 2021

It’s been a while, hasn’t it?

I missed last month’s update. I’ve barely posted at all over the last little while. And, to be honest, I haven’t gotten a whole lot of writing done, either.

I haven’t gotten much creative work done at all, outside of what I do for my day-to-day work.

There’s no excuse for it, and I don’t fully know what happened. With everything going on in life, I just needed a break, I guess.

I’m slowly trying to get back to where I was, though. Or an altered version of where I was, one that maybe works a little bit better for me. And that starts with assessing where I’ve been.

Novel-length WIPs

While I didn’t do a lot of writing, I did manage to get some done. Not nearly as much as I would have liked, or as much as I would normally write during the course of almost two months, but it’s something.

I’m also about a third of the way through reading CD. It doesn’t need quite as many edits as I expected, though I am finding some good revisions to make. I’m hopeful it won’t take me long to get back to where I was, and back to editing this manuscript regularly again, so that I can finish reading through it relatively soon.

Short stories

I don’t think I did much of anything in this area. I tried putting together a story for a contest, and got partway through, but my inspiration for it lagged near the beginning of April. I haven’t felt the pull to go back to it yet, unfortunately. Maybe one day soon it’ll pull me in again, though I’ve missed the boat for that particular contest, I’m afraid.

So that’s a condensed version my last couple of months. There was more to report than I thought there would be, though not as much as I would normally hope. Still, it’s enough to give me hope, and enough to propel me forward into this month.

I hope you’re feeling at least as much, if not more, of a forward pull.
