Monthly update: January 2022

I pretty much disappeared the last couple of months, didn’t I? Sorry about that. Partly I needed a bit of a break from being online for a good part of most days, and partly… well, life just got busy.

Things are getting back to normal now, though, which means I’m hoping to get back into some old habits. I’ve been pretty good about writing and editing regularly the past little while, but there are a few other areas in which I want to improve. You’ll see two of them here—blogging and photography—but you may also notice a difference if you follow me over on social media.

A good start to that new round of habit-building would be to update you on where my writing is at. So let’s start there, shall we?

Manuscript-length WIPs

I have some pretty great news: I finished N during my little break. Don’t get me wrong, it needs a ton of work. This was only a first draft, after all. But I’m quite happy to be past that step. I’m taking a bit of a break from it now, and plan to take a fresh look at it in the spring.

For now, I’m focusing on CD. I finished my marked edits and am now going through it one last time. There’s a bit of a big change I’m working on, but not an overhaul. I should have this round finished by mid-February, and then, I hope, I can start querying.

Short stories

As usual, I’ve made little progress here. I wanted to focus on CD, so I haven’t been giving my short stories much thought. But I’ll get back to them once CD is in the query stage, I think.

So that’s about it for writing. I’m quite happy with my progress in this area, and have some big plans for 2022.

We’ll have to wait to see how they go.
