Who else is hoping for an all-good August? I certainly am. Not that I’ve had a particularly bad July or anything. I’m just hoping to keep the positive times rolling.
I don’t have an overly busy August planned so far. Certainly not as busy as July, at any rate. My hope is that this meager schedule will let me get more done, because I didn’t exactly manage to accomplish a whole lot in July.
For once, though, I kind of don’t mind that I didn’t meet my monthly goals. Let me tell you why.
July’s goals
- Finish V&L revisions.
- Start on BC revisions.
- Finish my current short story, including at least one round of edits.
I’m sure, based on what you just read, you’ve already figured out that I didn’t finish my V&L revisions. I made some progress with them, just not a whole lot.
I also didn’t finish that short story. I hit a bit of a snag with it, actually. I think I just about have it figured out, though, so I feel close to having it finished.
That second goal, though, the one about starting BC revisions? That one I did accomplish. Sure, I didn’t get very far. But I started, so it counts as a win.
Now, why aren’t I upset that I didn’t reach two out of three goals? Simply because there were other things I needed to focus on. Yes, my writing goals are important, but so is spending time with my family, and catching up on sleep, and not being too hard on myself when I need a break.
So that’s what I did in July: I took care of myself. And now I’m ready to get back to work.
August’s goals
- Finish V&L revisions.
- Finish BC revisions.
- Take a writing course or attend a workshop.
Those are all pretty straight-forward, hey? The first is clearly a carry-over from last month. The second may sound lofty, but I don’t think it really is; there’s not a whole lot more revising I can do on BC until an editor takes a look at it.
As for the third–it’s just been a while since I’ve taken a class or workshop. I want to get at least one in before fall hits.
There’s my August for you. What do you have planned?
