Recipe review: Simply Recipes’ Brownie in a Mug

Brownie in a Mug

Desserts made in mugs are pretty popular these days. And really, it’s not surprising that they are. Getting the chance to have a freshly made and baked cake in a matter of minutes? Sounds like a good deal to me.

The other day, I was in the mood for a dessert like that. So I tried out the Brownie in a Mug recipe from Simply Desserts.

Brownie in a Mug

Overall, I was pretty happy with how dessert turned out. It tasted pretty good, and it was fairly simple to make.

Brownie in a Mug

You start by mixing your dry ingredients in the mug – nothing major, just some flour, sugar, cocoa powder, salt and cinnamon. After that come your wet ingredients, and then you mix it all up and throw it in the microwave.

Honestly, I think it’s the simplest brownie recipe I’ve ever made. The whole process took less than five minutes, which is exactly the sort of thing I needed on an evening after a busy day at work.

Unfortunately, it didn’t turn out quite how I had hoped it would. That isn’t to say it didn’t taste good – it just didn’t quite taste the way I expected it to, and it didn’t quite have the texture I expected it to. The next time I make this (and I do plan on making it again), I think I’ll leave it in the microwave for a bit longer, and maybe use a bit less canola oil. Otherwise, I think this is a pretty solid recipe, and a great one to try on a night when you just need a quick dessert.
