Monthly update: July 2017

We’re headed for a jolly July, everyone! Well, I hope we are, at least. I think everyone could use a little extra jolliness.

(On another note, can you tell my alliteration skills are running a bit thin? I’m determined to pull them through to the end of 2017, though. Here’s hoping I come up with something better for the last few months.)

To be honest, I can’t believe we’re halfway through 2017. The time has gone surprisingly quickly, and at the same time surprisingly slowly. It’s an odd sensation, to be honest.

What’s not so odd? I didn’t quite accomplish all of my goals for June. I did come close, though.

June’s goals

  1. Get two-thirds of the way though V&L revisions.
  2. Prepare my query letter for BC.
  3. Post to Instagram twice per week.

Let’s take a look at those in order this time. My laptop problems didn’t let up like I’d expected, unfortunately, so I didn’t get quite as many V&L revisions done as I’d hoped. But I did make it more than halfway through the manuscript, and I feel like it’s coming along well. Overall, it seems much stronger than the last version.

I’m doing pretty well for BC’s query letter, too. I have it drafted, and I’m hoping to have a couple of people look over it soon. With any luck, I’ll have a final version ready within a couple of weeks.

As for that last one… I’m counting it as complete. There was one week when I only posted once, but otherwise I managed the two-per-week postings. I think I’ll be able to keep up with that one.

So what do I have planned for July? Take a look.

July’s goals

  1. Finish V&L revisions.
  2. Start on BC revisions.
  3. Finish my current short story, including at least one round of edits.

I only have three goals again this month. To be honest, I’m not sure if I”m under-shooting here or over-shooting. See, I have some time off at the beginning of the month, but I’ll be travelling during that time. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to do as much revising as I’d like to, but I’m going to try.

Now, what about you? Do you have some lofty goals for a jolly July?
