Monthly update: April 2017

Who’s ready for an awesome April? The weather is warming up, the snow’s almost gone (or completely gone, if you live somewhere nicer than here), and summer is so close I can taste it.

There are a few goals I’d like to accomplish before summer comes, though, and April looks like it’ll be a good month to work on them. I may not get quite as much done as I did in March–I don’t have a week off this month like I did last–but I’m sure there will be a few accomplishments I can share with you by the time May rolls around.

Before we get too far into looking ahead, though, let’s take a few minutes to look back.

March’s goals

  1. Revise Baking Chaos.
  2. Sort out the point of view issues in V&L.
  3. Post to Litsy twice.
  4. Develop a Monthly Update graphic.

First off, as you probably noticed, I can mark number 4 off as complete. Creating the Monthly Update graphic didn’t take much work, to be honest. It was nice to have a relatively quick and easy goal on March’s list.

As I hinted at the beginning of this post, I got a lot done this past month. I did a full revision of Baking Chaos, and I think it’s just about ready for querying. I’m really quite happy with how the revisions came out, too. The novel is stronger for them, and I can’t wait to see what others think of it.

I also figured out the point of view issues I was having in V&L, which led to a full restructuring of the novel. I have it all outlined now, and I’ve sorted out whose point of view we’ll be experiencing when. All that’s left are the actual rewrites.

So now, the Litsy-related goal. I can’t check this one off like I did the others; I only got one post up on Litsy this month. That said, I did figure out what some of my upcoming posts will look like, and got ahold of some of the props I’ll need. I’m hopeful that I’ll have at least two posts go up in the month of April.

In other March news, I also submitted two short stories for possible publication. I’m still waiting to hear back on both; one answer should be coming in the next week or so, but the other may take about a month. I’ll keep you posted on any positive news I may receive on them.

In the meantime, let’s move on to April.

April’s goals

  1. Get halfway through V&L rewrites/revision.
  2. Post three blog posts per week.
  3. Post to Litsy twice.

Yes, I did repeat that Litsy goal. What can I say, I’m determined to make it happen at some point.

Moving on from Litsy, I have a V&L-related goal and a blog-related goal. The V&L goal is the one I have the most confidence in; I know what I want to do with the manuscript, so it’s just a matter of the words flowing properly. That hasn’t been much of a problem with my other recent writing projects, so my fingers are crossed that it won’t be with this one.

To be honest, I’m not sure how confident I am that I’ll get three blog posts up each week. I’ve been fairly steadily posting two per week recently, but three somehow seems like a big jump. I’m going to give it a shot, though.

Well, I think that’s all the updating I have for now. Did you have a successful March? Or do you have anything big planned for April?
