My Mexican Vacation

Alright, I’ll admit it: I can see why some people consider life on a beach to be paradise. I mean, I’m not there yet (a fireplace and a warm blanket still call out to me more), but I can certainly understand the idea.

This past January, I escaped to Mexico for a week. I went with a large group of people, to help celebrate a good friend’s wedding. Gerda and Landen–I told you about Gerda back in September, after her bridal shower–chose to tie the knot at the Grand Sunset Princess resort, down in the Mayan Riviera.

Their wedding was halfway through the trip, on a warm, bright Wednesday afternoon. It was held right down on the beach, in a small gazebo that overlooked the ocean.

I can’t tell you how happy the two of them looked. I’m incredibly glad I was able to be there with them, and honoured that Gerda chose me as one of her bridesmaids.

I have to tell you, they picked an awfully good week for us to go. The week before, we were dealing with temperatures down around the -40 mark. Add in everything I’ve been going through the past couple of months, and, well, I was ready for an escape.

That week in Mexico ended up being the perfect vacation at the perfect time. The weather was beautifully sunny and clear, with rain on only one day. The sand was soft. The resort was big enough that there was plenty to do, but small enough to make walking easy. And I had a chance to relax.

And boy, did I take that chance to relax.

Outside of the day of the wedding, most of my days away were spent relaxing. Between the heat of the sun and the cool breeze, few things appealed to me more at that point than laying by the pool or on the beach. Add in a book and some good company, and I had the makings of a pretty great week.

Now, what about you? Have you taken the chance to escape lately?
