The view from Mexico

I have a bit of a special post for you today. At the end of November, I went to Mexico for a week. I went with my mom, as well as a group of about 20 other people. It was a wedding trip, and we all had a wonderful time.

By the end of the trip, I felt a lot more relaxed than I had before I had left. I didn’t get as much writing done as I had hoped, but I did get a lot of good pictures.

Some of those pictures are what I want to share with you today. I don’t have any here of the people I travelled with–I don’t feel comfortable posting pictures of them without their permission. But click on through for my ten favourite non-people photos from my week in Mexico.

FountainThis fountain was outside our lobby (there were five different lobbies on the resort where we stayed). I loved the way the sun sparkled off of the water as is splashed down, and I did my best to capture it in this picture.

Sunset

There were some gorgeous sunsets during our week in Mexico. This picture didn’t come out quite the way I had hoped, but I do like the way the palm leaves are silhouetted against the sky.

Iguana

Our resort was home to plenty of iguanas and other lizards. For most of the week, this big guy sat outside the building my mom and I stayed in. There was only one day when he sat on top of the bush, and I’m quite happy that I managed to get a good picture of him up there.

I’m not sure why I like this picture so much. I think it’s because it so clearly says “vacation” to me–how could white sand, a beach chair, a palm tree, and the ocean possibly say anything else?

There were seagulls everywhere on the beach. They were a bit too quick for me, but I did manage to get a couple of good photos of them. This definitely ranks as my favourite seagull picture.

Don’t you just love a good rainbow? I know I do. It poured for between five and ten minutes one afternoon at the beach, and afterward there was an absolutely beautiful rainbow streaking across the sky. I got a couple of good pictures of it, but I like this one best because of the way the colours stand out against the darkness of the sky.

Unknown animal

I have no idea what kind of animal this is, but there were quite a few of them wandering around our resort. They and the raccoon were very scared of people (I’m guessing people tend to feed them fairly often), which meant there were some great photo opportunities.

Large bird

I nearly missed this bird the day he visited. My mom and I were heading to the buffet for lunch when some of the nearby fish caught my attention. I went over to checked them out, and that’s when I noticed this bird sitting in the leaves. He had some of the prettiest colouring I’ve ever seen, and I’m really glad I was able to snap a picture of him hiding in the leaves.

Bouquet

There are always plenty of good pictures that come out of a wedding. I took lots on the day of the wedding, but this is one of my favourite ones (well, one of my favourites that doesn’t have people in it). I’m not sure why–there’s just something about the flowers that appeals to me.

Beach party decorations

On the night of the wedding, the resort set up a beach party for us. They did a fantastic job with the decorations, and I’m really quite happy with how well I was able to photograph the lights.

Well, that’s it for this post of pictures. How about you–do you enjoy taking pictures as much as I do? Are there any that you’d like to share?
