Wednesday links: Debut novels

I love regularly reading tips and advice articles in certain subjects — particularly writing and publishing. I don’t always need the information right then, but I know that it’ll eventually come in handy. Or at least, I hope it will.

I know there are a lot of other people out there who feel the same way I do, but sometimes it can be difficult to find every useful advice article that’s out there. So I thought I’d bring you a few. Here are the tips and advice articles that jumped out at me the most over the past week.

1. I Published My Debut Novel to Critical Acclaim—and Then I Promptly Went Broke, from Kameron Hurley: A lot of writers look at their future debut novel as the answer to all of their problems. It’ll make them a lot of money. It’ll make them famous. It’ll make all of their future novels easier. But you know what? That likely isn’t the case. Excerpt: “I kept my day job. I kept my day job – I keep my day job – even though some days it pains the hell out of me, because yeah, I’d be broke immediately if I quit. Like, no contest.”
